Craig at recent inter club challenge duathlon

Report on first tri for the season

by Deb Shapira

It was a shock start to what could be a long hot summer over the Labour Day Weekend. 15 adults and 3 juniors came to race. The senior race was won by Craig Pager who set up this race as part of his multi faceted Gutsy Challenge and we are proud to announce that this event raised $1167 towards this along with personal member donations bringing the total contribution of the club to an excess of $2000. Craig is very graeful for this support.

Alan Kaplan had great swim and cycle legs to finish second showing he is in good form for Noosa in a few weeks time.

There are two honorable mentions. Leo Rubinstein stepped up to the full adult distance for the first time and came out of the water first. With an outstanding cycle showing huge improvements and solid run he finished mid-field. Definitely one to watch for the future.

The other mention should be made of Anne Besser who decided to come along to do just the bike as a time trial in training for Masters Games, put on a hitherto unused trisuit because it was hot, jumped in the pool and ended up completing 1 lap of the run despite serious back surgery a year ago. Unfortunately she refused to take a timing chip but we hope that this is a big welcome back to tri.

The junior boys was won by Benji Greenstein while the junior girls was won by Dena Rubinstein.
