Cycle news

I am attaching below a newsletter prepared by Mike Evans for all you cyclists out there – ie, all of you!!

Please note in particular that part of the newsletter re:

#5 ordering club kit
#6 - the need to become paid up members of the club.

Hope to see you all at our next club ride this coming Sunday morning.

Regards

David

TO ALL MEMBERS – BUT ESPECIALLY YOU CYCLISTS!,

A slightly belated welcome to 2013, and happy new year. We hope you are enjoying a little r&r over the summer, as we are looking forward to a bumper year of rolling in and around Sydney.

We very much look forward to consolidating on what we can safely describe as a solid first full year as a club. It was terrific to see a core of approximately 25 Jewish riders participate in club activities on a regular basis. To recap on some of the highlights:

1) Monthly club rides (at least over the warmer months!) in and around Sydney. Some overseas trips too, with a couple of rides north, and special visas required for a trip into the Royal National Park;

2) Inaugural club time trials. A series of 4 events were staged over the year, with some excellent standards of riding. It was tremendous to see club records tumble all over the track, and as soon as a few more of us work off a bit of summer schmaltz, no doubt more will fall!

3) Club uniform. It's the look that counts, and there is no doubt that the Maccabi Tri and Cycle Club absolutely means business now that we have the schmatters. Mazaltov to the Tri club committee in getting this arranged...it really is a very smart outfit.

4) Membership increase. Although not quite bulging at the seams, it was great to see our membership grow steadily over the year. We look forward to this growth continuing strongly in 2013...more info to follow below.

So onto 2013, and having read the above, most of you will be wondering just how can it get any better this year. All that can be said is to just take a read of what follows, lift that jaw off the pavement, limber up, and hop on board!

#1 - MORE RIDES THAN EVER...STARTING THIS WEEKEND!

The aim this year is to have a group of Maccabi cyclists head out in a bunch at least once a week. Obviously this will vary as events may clash, but the general feedback has been so positive. You see how it works here...you speak, we listen!

First ride of 2013 will be this Sunday 27 January. So go easy on those Australia Day shandies, and we look forward to seeing you all bright and early at 6:00am at the Centennial Park duckpond/caravan.

Route: Waterfall (Distance 90km, Elevation 600m) those wanting a shorter ride can turn around at Sutherland.

#2 - EVENT PARTICIPATION

We are hoping this year to get an organized team of Maccabi cyclists entered into one or more of the major events that take place around the country. Hopefully something more than the good old Gong ride. There are plenty of options available, so thinking caps on for any suggestions.

#3 - MACCABIAH

2013 is a huge year for Jewish sport with the 19th Maccabiah taking place this July. Some of our local stars led by our own ex-Olympian Sean Bloch have been training hard hoping to make an impact on the world stage. Good luck to them! Although nominations have formally closed, if you really interested in participating, please contact Sean ASAP (sean@itmd.com.au) and he will see whether a late nomination may be possible.

#4 - MORE TIME TRIALS AND COMPETITIONS

We look forward this year to ramping up the number of time trials and competitive events. The next event will be on10 February 30km at Heffron Park - more details to follow. It’s a great way to test yourself and see how you are performing.

The good news on this front is that our club has invested in a sophisticated timing system which will be set up in our future races to record your time as you zoom around Heffron Park. The Club has not had a development like this since Adam was a boy!

Exciting times indeed for the club!

#5 - UNIFORMS

This is the bit where we need you to help us. You knew it was coming, so please take note!

We have mentioned the terrific riding uniforms that are now available. We hope and expect that you will get on board and order at least a shirt so you too can feel proud in the Maccabi colours.

We are hoping to finalize a further order in the next couple of weeks, so if you haven't already, please go to this link to complete your order.

#6 - MEMBERSHIP

Finally we look forward to everyone officially signing up and paying the (VERY!!) nominal membership fee. Those of you who joined the club last year need to renew your membership for this year. Those of you who have not – here’s your chance!! This is really necessary for insurance purposes, as well as the affiliation fee to Maccabi. It will be expected that if you are participating in club rides that you be a member.

THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT. THOSE WHO ARE NOT MEMBERS WHO RIDE WITH OTHERS WHO ARE MEMBERS NOT ONLY WILL NOT BE COVERED BY MACCABI’S INSURANCE POLICY, BUT IMPERIL THE INSURANCE COVER OF THOSE WHO ARE ALREADY MEMBERS. PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE WILL BE A SHORT GRACE PERIOD OFFERED (TO 28 FEB) FOR BECOMING REGISTERED. AFTER THAT TIME, ONLY MEMBERS WILL BE WELCOME ON OUR CLUB RIDES/OTHER EVENTS. WE HOPE YOU WILL UNDERSTAND AND APPRECIATE THE NEED FOR STRICTLY ENFORCING THIS RULE.

To join, simply go to our membership page on the Maccabi NSW website:

<http://www.maccabi.com.au/NSW/triathlon-club/Register.cfm?backToForm=155>

Membership fees are as follows:

A. Seniors -$60, unless you are already a member of Maccabi NSW for the 2013 year (by being a member of another Maccabi affiliated club) in which case the fee is $25.

B. Juniors - $40 (or $15 if already a Maccabi member).

In addition, all members will be required to purchase a tag/ankle strap (which is theirs to keep/use for each of our events) which will give them their unique identifying number in our computer system.

The tag/ankle strap will cost $10 for members (senior and junior).

Tag/ankle strap purchases can be made via the ‘Timing Tag <http://www.maccabi.com.au/NSW/triathlon-club/Register.cfm?backToForm=185>’ page on the Maccabi NSW website. You need to be a member to make this purchase.

Please note that all membership/tag fee payments must be paid into the club’s bank account, details below:
