Under 17 NSW State Cycling Championships

Brayden Bloch came in the NSW State Championships this past weekend with pretty high expectations as a 1st year in the age group.

His goal event was the 12km individual time trial feeling this was his best chance of creating an upset. Brayden rode great time trial finishing in 5th place in the state proving to be only  18 seconds of the bronze medal. He also average over 41kmh for the time trial in very windy conditions.

In the road race over 60km was always going to be tough to create any opportunity’s or cause an upset. Brayden started the race motivated to give it a full go and with about 10km to go managed to break away with one other boys from the main bunch and was working hard to get to the line first. However the bunch was having none that and with about 2km to go reeled the two boys in and setting up a bunch sprint. Brayden ran out of legs and was to tried from the effort in the morning and then the break away to make any impact in the sprint and finished 21st at the back of the lead bunch.

The next day in the criterium Brayden was ready to have another go. The race was really tough and the weather was throwing everything at them, it was very windy and cold. Midway through the race it started to rain and every boy in the race was trying to attack of the front which made for fast exciting racing. Brayden basically had to be patient and wait for the sprint. This time he did find himself in a good position but started his sprint a little early and faded towards the end finishing a respectable 13th overall.

Brayden is now looking forward the State Team Trial championships in a few weeks and National Championships in September on the Gold Coast.
