U13A Match Report

Maccabi v Heffron Hawks

Our U13 boys took on Heffron hawks over the weekend, looking to kickstart their season. Blighted by injuries and absences during the opening three games they had suffered narrow defeats against two title contenders. The game started brightly with Maccabi taking the game to Heffron early on, and should have had a penalty when Shumuli Hatzvi was dumped to the floor while about to pull the trigger.

Heffron were a constant threat on the break throughout the opening 25 minutes, with their pacy number 9 looking very sharp. But eventually the pressure told and it was no surprise that Bailey Reid got the goal. Reid, recently returned to the club from rep soccer with Hakoah, had far to much pace for the Heffron defence and squeezed his shot past the keeper and in off the upright.

Just after the break the visitors were rewarded for their fast restart and the scores were leveled up by a fine strike from the edge of the area. But this proved to be the wake up call that maccabi needed. Noah Hunter and Harry Skurnik started to dominate again and the game swung back in Maccabi’s favour.

The pressure was relentless. Ethan McCardle and Adam Velan both got close but it was from the penalty spot that the second goal came. Bailey Reid tucking home his second of the game.  Ethan Mcardle got the third after a breakaway left him Clean through with just the keeper to beat. And beat him he did, calming slotting it home to finish the game off and leave the boys right back in the mix. A great result as this Heffron team will be strong contenders come the end of season.

The Man of the match award went to Dan Schnider, who broke up countless breaks and added much needed steel to the midfield.
