Nominees:

Danielle Rutstein - Athletics (Age 14)

Danielle has always dreamt of one day representing Australia in athletics. With all her hard work and determination this dream became a reality when she was selected to represent Australia at the 2017 Maccabiah Games and being the youngest athlete in Track and Field and competing in four events. 

At the Maccabiah Games, Danielle won bronze in the high jump event and came 4th in long jump. She also won silver and bronze medals as part of the Junior relay teams.

Lara Kaplan - Tennis (Age 15)

Lara is in year 10 at Moriah and trains 12-15 hours a week at Maccabi tennis at White city and at the NSW academy at Homebush. She has had a great year of tennis. She started playing international tournaments in New Zealand, Noumea and Fiji and has started to accumulate international ranking points. She won her first Australian AMT at Nepean. Lara also reached the quarter or semi-finals of numerous other Australian tournaments. Lara’s highest ranking in 2017 was 3rd in NSW and 6th in Australia.

Lara was a finalist at the NSW Under 18 Championships and winner of the doubles competition. She was at least a Quarter Finalist in all other state tournaments played and had numerous match wins at ITFs in Australia, Noumea, Fiji and New Zealand during 2017.

Isabella Coghlan - Swimming (Age 15)

Isabella is an active and passionate member of swimming and surf lifesavings clubs, for almost ten years now. At eight she competed in her first NSW State Surf Lifesaving Championships, finishing 13th in the swim and surpassing all expectations on a stormy day in Kingscliff.

Isabella has taken on several swimming challenges including the Bondi to Watsons Bay which she completed in 2hrs 15minutes, the Lake Burley Griffin Swim (9.3km) and most recently the 5 Beaches swim (Coogee to North Bondi - 1hr 5mins in a large swell).

These events have motivated Isabella even more and led to her winning several State medals (in both Surf Lifesaving and OWS). 

State Achievements during 2017:

  • NSW Open Water Swimming Championships Gold in 5km and 7.5km
  • Invited to 2017 NSW Swimming Age Development Squad
  • Finalist in NSW Schools 400m Freestyle and NSW Swimming Shortcourse 400m (14) & 800m (14) Freestyle
  • Finalist Surf lifesaving NSW Championships (Individual and Team Events)

National Achievements during 2017:

  • 3rd Place at Australian Open Water Swimming Championships.
  • Competed at SLS Australia Championships made a number of SF in individual and team events 

Amelie Trope - Athletics (Age 10)

Amelie has been doing athletics since she was about 6 years old. She runs for the South Eastern Little Athletics Club in Sydney. She also represents her school, Rose Bay Public School in athletics competitions. Amelie also plays netball and is currently in a Development Squad for her region, run by the Randwick Netball Association. 

Amelie competed at State & National level in the 100m & 200m sprints. She placed 2nd in the NSW PSSA State Championships and came 1st in the Pacific School Games National Championships in the 200m event for her age. She was also part of the 800m relay team that claimed 1st place.

Jaymi Aronowitz - Gymnastics (Age 15)

Jaymi Aronowitz, 15 years old, has been doing gymnastics since the age of 4. Jaymi has had the opportunity to compete both locally and internationally. Jaymi is currently doing Level 10, and has represented NSW in State Championships for the past 3 years. Jaymi trains 21 hours a week at the NSW Academy of Gymnastics. 

Jaymi represented NSW at the State Gymnastics, where they received silver medal, placing second overall. Jaymi in her individual capacity received two bronze medals for Beam and Vault, placing third.
