Maccabi Junior Sportswoman of the Year


Lara Kaplan - Tennis (Age 15)

Lara is in year 10 at Moriah and trains 12-15 hours a week at Maccabi tennis at White city and at the NSW academy at Homebush. She has had a great year of tennis. She started playing international tournaments in New Zealand, Noumea and Fiji and has started to accumulate international ranking points. She won her first Australian AMT at Nepean. Lara also reached the quarter or semi-finals of numerous other Australian tournaments. Lara’s highest ranking in 2017 was 3rd in NSW and 6th in Australia.

Lara was a finalist at the NSW Under 18 Championships and winner of the doubles competition. She was at least a Quarter Finalist in all other state tournaments played and had numerous match wins at ITFs in Australia, Noumea, Fiji and New Zealand during 2017.

Gabriella Goodridge - Swimming (Age 15)

Gabi is at Emanuel School, Yr9 in 2017. She is adept at many sports, however now excels in swimming. Her swimming training involves 7-8 1.5-2hr sessions per week in the pool and 3 45min gym sessions. In 2017 Gabi dominated her school carnival and won through the next 2 levels of competition to qualify for the CIS swimming Championships. Gabi was awarded the Tom York Trophy for outstanding female sportperson at Emanuel for 2017.

Gabi attended the NSW State Open Championships and was a qualifier for the 50m freestyle and butterfly events. At the 20th Maccabiah Games, she was a finalist in the girls 100m Butterfly (7th), 50m Freestyle (5th) and received Bronze medals for 2 junior girls relays. She also compteted in the 100m freestyle and 1.5km Open water events.
