Maccabi Junior Sportsman of the Year


Nominees:

Jared Elbourne – Swimming/Athletics (Age 15)

Jared has been swimming since age 7 and always has the dream of representing Australia in swimming. This dream came true for Jared in 2017 being a successful member of the Maccabiah Jnr Swim team. Jared competed in 11 races, achieved 11 personal best times, 1 A qualifying finals, coming home with 3 bronze medals in 3 relays. Together with this Jared, successfully completed his Surf Life Saving Bronze Medallion during 2017. In 2017 Jared received the Jnr Excellence award from Swimming Australia for the 6th consecutive year and represented Maccabi Swimming at NSW State Championships. 

Zachary Sapsford - Futsal (Age 15)

Every year that Zac played for his club he has been the Golden Boot and in most years he has been the top goal scorer in the whole competition. He is both a leader of his Futsal team, a coach for the younger players and hero for all the players of our Club.

Zac was voted MVP in the whole Futsal competition. Last season, Zac won the Golden Boot across the whole competition, scoring 24 goals which was a season record. Zac also won the MVP award last outdoor season.

Zac has played and scored for the Under 19's Futsal team, being the youngest ever player to play for the men’s team. As a 15-year-old he played for the State Under 16 team and was part of the Australian U16 Maccabiah team.

Jordan Swibel - Soccer (Age 17)

Jordan is a footballer who is currently studying to gain accreditation as a personal fitness trainer. His talent and performances were recognised as he was scouted by Maccabi Tel Aviv and invited to train with the club. Unfortunately, due to visa issues Jordan returned from Israel. His exploits in Israel at the Maccabiah as well as back home with Hakoah saw him scouted by Sydney FC and he signed with the club`s youth team for the 2017/2018 season. 

Jordan captained the Hakoah FC U18's in the 2017 season in the National Premier League Division 1 and was awarded the Golden Boot Award 2017 for being the top scorer in the entire club (approximately 120 players).

Jordan was also selected as captain of the Maccabi Australia Youth Boys Football team for the 20th Maccabiah Games and led the team to 8th ranking in the tournament. He was the top goals scorer with 7 goals from 7 games.

Alon Pajor - Swimming (Age 16)

Alon has trained and competed in swimming from the age of 8. For the last 6 years he's trained at Moriah College and competed as a part of the resurgent Maccabi Swimming Club Team. Alon has competed at State Age Championship level for the past 5 years and in 2017 competed at his third National Age Championships. The 20th Maccabiah had been Alon's primary goal for more than 4 years and he lead the Australian Junior Boys team throughout the meet. 

Alon was Moriah School 16yrs Age Champion and proceeded to place 1st and 2nd at the CDSSA championships and AICES Championships in a number of races and 6th place in NSW CIS Championships 200m freestyle. 

At the 20th Maccabiah Games, July 2017 alon received a silver medal in the Junior Boys 400m freestyle and 4th place in the Junior Boys 100m and 200m freestyle. He also won 3 bronze medals in the junior boys relays.
