Brayden Bloch Wins 50km Bathurst UCI Cycling Classic!

Posted: 18-Mar-2020 by Maccabi NSW

This past weekend Brayden Bloch, Maccabi Cycling and Tri Club member was in Bathurst for the Bathurst UCI Cycling Classic and the NSW State Hill Climb Championships. On Saturday he competed in the NSW State Under 17 Hill climb championships where he finished 4th. Later that day he competed in the under 17 criterium race which he won with a very impressive solo break away.

On Sunday morning Brayden competed in a 50km Bathurst UCI Cycling Classic open road race.

The first 25km of the race not much action took place even though this was certainly the harder part of the race, with hills coming at you all the time. Brayden was playing the smart waiting game and saving himself for the main climb which was coming at about 25km in to the race. At the 25km mark there was a 3km climb. At the top of the climb was a race to be the KOM (king of the mountain) for the day. Brayden won the race to the top to be the KOM (king of the mountain) and then realized he a gap to the rest of what was left of the main group. At this point he thought to myself that he needed to keep going, knowing that the next 20km’s or so where going to be a fast run to the finish. So he dug deep and pulled away from the remaining bunch and time trialled alone all the way to the finish.

Brayden won the race by over 2 minutes in a solo effort. This race would certainly have to be Brayden’s biggest win to date.

Well Done Brayden and all of us at the club look forward to watching you in the upcoming cycling road season.
