Funding allocated for All Abilities Programs

Posted: 03-Jun-2019 by Maccabi NSW

Maccabi All Abilities extends its gratitude to The Choice Foundation and JCA for their generous support in enabling 2 new programs under All Abilities. These programs will promote inclusion in our community and provide more opportunities for people of all abilities to take part in recreational activities.

The Choice Foundation provides grants for organisations looking to create innovative projects and programs for the benefit of people living with a disability and their families. Read more about The Choice Foundation HERE.

The 2 Maccabi Programs to be launched imminently are:

  1. Partnering with schools to Educate our Youth through Experience
  2. Maccabi Dance Project

Maccabi has partnered with various Jewish schools to Educate our youth through Experience and build awareness around inclusion. To truly create inclusion, we need to fundamentally change the systemic way in which we look at those who are different in order to play sport and enjoy recreation on and off the sports field.

This exciting initiative provides genuine, innovative and thought-provoking experiences that will drive pathways to empathy.  Instead of children being told how to engage, they will now have the opportunity to submerge themselves into an authentic experience that will enable them to shift perceptions and build understanding.

The program will begin with The NSW Wheelchair Roadshow. Students will hear from a sports person to hear first hand about living in a wheelchair. The students will have the chance to try wheelchair sport themselves, offering them a different perspective.

In turn the program provides an opportunity for a sustainable platform of advocates where school sport teams play and train alongside All Abilities participants in a variety of different sports.

The Maccabi Dance Project is the other program to start in the coming weeks, which will see participants given the opportunity to attend regular dance classes, run by a proffessional dance instructor. The sessions will be tailored to the needs and level of the participants.
