Welcome to season 2017!

Posted: 19-Jan-2017 by Hakoah Sydney City East Football Club

Dear Hakoah FC players, fans, coaches and sponsors,

Welcome back for another huge year in football! After 2016 saw us survive in our first year in NPL1, as well as winning two trophies and growing in competiveness each week across the juniors, we look forward to an even more successful 2017!

The squad assembled by new head coach Gavin Rae is young, hungry and quick with a good seasoning of experience, while new 20s coaches Hubbsy and Andy have pulled together a group of players capable of pushing for first team roles, and Ganno and Conzi's teams are always in the mix for trophies.

I'd like to make special mention of our new recruit Gidi Sweet who has moved from Melbourne to play for Hakoah FC, and has made a big impact on the pitch so far. He will also be coaching our juniors at Maccabi, so please make him feel welcome to Sydney if you meet him.

The juniors meanwhile are looking to continue their growth as footballers and young men with our core squads bringing in excellent new talent as well as exciting new coaches. Junior TD Barry Walker had the following to say: "A big welcome to all players, for what promises to be a fantastic 2017 Youth Season. I am really excited about our playing and coaching roster and I'm sure we will have a successful and rewarding season. We start this week with our Camp at Narrabeen. It is a major part of our build up and I look forward to seeing you all there and enjoying a great 2017 Campaign."

Over the weekend, we kicked off senior trials in a winning fashion by winning all three grades away to Fraser Park, with club manager Brian Ree providing the following summaries.

U18's- Hakoah 4 def Fraser Park 3

Hakoah U18s defeated Fraser Park yesterday in their first hit out for the season. Coaches Mark Gannon and Jason Conroy used the hit out to experiment with different combinations. Although going down one nil early, Hakoah showed great composure and their usual skill and fighting spirit to overcome their determined opponents, eventually winning 4-3. A great game for the neutrals, and a great start for the U18s.

U20s - Hakoah Sydney City East 2 def Fraser Park 0

Hakoah U20's played their first preseason match yesterday against a hungry Fraser Park outfit, coached by Jason Culina. But they were no match for Hakoah, expertly coached by Paul Hubbard and Andy Norman.

Their superior tactics and dominance in ball possession were too much for Fraser Park. Jon Dimopoulos and Dau Akol were towers in defence.

The industrial midfielders Nathan Roberts, Liam Thomas and Julian Rinaldi impressed. As did lone striker Connor Eldridge. All in all, a very polished performance from Hakoah U20s.

1st Grade - Hakoah Sydney City East 2 def Fraser Park 1

Hakoah 1sts came across a monstrous, physical Fraser Park team coached by Branko Culina, in their first preseason match of the season. Hakoah matched Fraser Park's physical approach and played some neat football as well.

The pace of the game was frenetic on a hot summer day, and the Hakoah team showed great skill, fitness and determination to overcome Fraser Park 2-1.

Coach Gavin Rae expertly juggled the team around, who were minus the services of 4 senior players. Nice goals from Jack Green  and Anthony Frangie sealed the deal for Hakoah, who look set to build on this solid start to their campaign.

New players, Gidi Sweet, Ollie and Jack Green, Harry Jones, Dean Bereveskos, Anthony Frangie, Cameron Draper and Anthony Bouzanis all impressed and will take confidence from the win. All in all, a good, solid start for Hakoah 1sts.

Thanks to Hakoah FC media manager Stevie Lee for the First Grade action photos.
