Semi Finals -First Grade Report - 7 Sept 2015

Posted: 07-Sep-2015 by Hakoah Sydney City East Football Club

Hakoah FC ended their 2015 campaign when they went down 2-1 against Bankstown City at Sydney United Sports Centre on Saturday night.

A tight first half between the two sides was only separated by a Bankstown goal after 19 minutes when a deflected cross fell nicely into the path of the Lions winger who lobbed the ball back across the goal mouth for an on rushing Bankstown City player to nudge the ball into an open goal.

Hakoah then lifted a notch and pushed the opposition to the limits with a low shot by Neil Jablonski pushed wide by the Lions keeper and then an audacious over the shoulder bicycle kick by Federico Kertcher tipped over the bar a few minutes later.

Despite their efforts Hakoah could not pull back the deficit and headed into sheds trailing 1-0 at the break.

Hakoah started the second half in promising fashion and pressed the opposition from the outset. Their efforts were rewarded in the 52nd minute when a free kick was flicked on by Mick McCrory for Jablonski to outmuscle the Lions backline and fire the ball into the roof of the net for 1-1.

Two crucial saves by Matthew Symes kept Bankstown at bay as the play flowed from end to end in an open and fast paced match between the two sides.

Both teams threw everything at each other with a fast and furious tempo as the ball zipped from defence to attack.

Bankstown took the lead in the 77th minute with an unstoppable drive from the edge of the box for a 2-1 advantage against the run of play.

Hakoah shifted to three at the back sending more men forward in the search for an equaliser. A final flurry of corners was not enough for Hakoah to get something out of the match and the Lions were victorious on the night.
