Round 6 - Under 14s lost to Parramatta 1-2

Posted: 30-Apr-2015 by Hakoah Sydney City East Football Club

Hakoah went into the game against Parramatta looking to build on their win from last week.

The boys started well and looked to have the measure of their opposition early on in the game.

Hakoah created some chances but it was not until the latter part of the first half when  Matt Sharp got onto the end of a long ball from Aaron Klimt & blasted it past the keeper , that the boys took the lead.

One - nil to Hakoah at half time  with the boys looking good!

Hakoah came out confident in the second half and looked the better team. However , they could not convert any of their chances into a second goal.

Then came the turning point in the game!! Parramatta made a rare run in Hakoah's half and a determined Parra player pushed over our central defender to give himself a free run to goal. The blatant push was missed by  the referee and an acknowledgement of the ref 's howler from the embarrassed Parra coach could not change the scoreline. Hakoah 1 Parramatta 1.

The goal seemed to fire Parramatta up and the Hakoah boys had no one to blame but themselves for some soft defending which resulted in a second goal & saw Parra take an unlikely 2-1 lead. Things could have been even worse for Hakoah but for the heroics of keeper Riley Kovkin, whose triple save from one Parramatta attack was simply outstanding .

The boys then pressed for an equaliser but failed to come up with another goal and were left to rue their wasted chances.

Final score Hakoah 1 Parramatta 2 - a disappointing result in a game which the boys controlled for the most part and really should have won.

Knowing that all champion teams find a way to win, despite cruel decisions going against them, the boys  made no excuses for the loss.

They now look forward to the away game against the Tigers determined to put in a more committed and aggressive performance.
