Presidents Cup

The Presidents Cup is being hosted by West Australia this year and being played at the Vines Course from 19 to 22 March. The NSW team is as follows:

  • Harry Beck
  • Alan Blumberg
  • John Dalley
  • Dave Felthun
  • Dave Greek
  • Rodney Green
  • James Israel
  • Barrie Jacobson
  • Ian Joffe
  • Michael Pinkus
  • Graham Shulman
  • Danton Stoloff

Hopefully the team can bring back the trophy after a few lean years for NSW!

Maccabi Cup

This is a national initiative which runs like the Fedex Cup on the PGA tour and runs from the beginning of February to the end of November. Open to all paid up members of Maccabi Golf, points are allocated for your best 20 rounds and worst 3 rounds. If you are a paid up member of Maccabi Golf by the end of  the March cut off date, you are automatically entered in this competition. Best place finishers in A Grade, B Grade, C Grade and under 35 gain automatic entry into the NSW Presidents Cup team for 2021, which will be hosted by NSW at a course to be advised. The highest placed lady gains selection into the NSW Queens Cup team. This year, in an effort to maintain interest for the whole year in this competition in NSW, we will be holding a playoff at the end of the year for each of the monthly winners in each Grade and Ladies. This will be similar to the Gold Medal that clubs have for monthly medal winners. When details of this initiative are finalised, we will let you know.

Matchplay Knock out

Both men's and ladies' events commence this month. If you haven't already entered, there is still time to do so before this weekend.

Inter Club Event

The next interclub event will be taking place on Sunday May 17th at St Michaels with a 1.00pm shotgun start.  Each team will have 8 members represent their club. The teams include Monash, The Lakes, St Michaels, Bonnie Doon, Composite Team (for players from a club that don't have 8 players) and a Ladies Team.

The qualification will be from the Maccabi Cup points tally which is totalled from your rounds played each week. The points will be totalled from week 1 of the Maccabi Cup up until 13th April. The top 8 players from each club will get an automatic qualification into their respective team to compete against each other on May 17. Should you not be able to play on the day the next best player will be asked to represent their club. You will receive an email from your captain shortly after the April 13 cut-off date to let you know you have qualified.

Bonnie Doon are the defending champs.

Ladies Day

The popular ladies day will once again be held at Monash on 6th August.

Under 35 Championships

This is a new event. As a committee we are concerned by the lack of participation by the younger members of the Maccabi golfing fraternity. One of the issues of having the championships in midweek has been that younger members find it difficult to take part. So in an effort to address this, we will be holding a separate under 35 NSW Maccabi Championship. This will be played on Sunday 11 October, more than likely at St Michaels. Note that by playing in the under 35 championships, it does not preclude anyone from playing in the the NSW Championships as well. In fact we encourage as many of you as possible to play both.

Sandersons Rushcutters Bay NSW Maccabi Golf Championships

The first round of the A Grade Stroke play will be on Sunday 8th November and the second round together with A, B and C Grade and ladies stableford will be on Thursday 12th November. The championships will once again be at Monash. We did receive feedback from some members who felt the championships should be held at different courses. After much discussion by the committee, we felt that Monash is the traditional home of Jewish golf in Sydney and it would be remiss to ignore the legacy of why Monash was formed in the first place. We hope those who felt otherwise will respect this decision and continue to support this great championships which is now in its 44th year.

We are aware  that some members have an annual golf tour around the time of the championships. We have tried to schedule the championships so that they don't clash with any dates of which we are aware. However, if possible, can we ask that if any members are planning a golf tour,  they try to avoid dates that would clash with the championships

Queens Cup

Now into it's third year, the Queens Cup will be hosted this year by NSW at a course to be determined from the 19th to the 22nd November

National Championships

The National Maccabi Golf Championships are being held from 28th February to 1st March 2020 on the Mornington Peninsula. Entries are still open but there are only a few spaces left so if you still want to enter, please do so ASAP

Maccabiah 2021

You would all have received an email earlier in the week regarding Maccabiah in 2021 which will be held from 20th July to 3rd August 2021. A reminder, if you wish to nominate for Maccabiah, you will need to do so by the end of April. Also remember there is a Maccabiah information evening this coming Sunday 16th February at Double Bay Bowling Club at 6.00pm if you are interested.

NSW Maccabi Golf AGM

The AGM will be held on 6th April at White City. Formal notification will follow soon.
