SOMETIMES, you just have to say: too good.

It wasn't to be for our Open Men's Futsal side, downed 7-1 by a mighty Argentine outfit in Ramat Gan to close out the Maccabiah Games.

There was so much hype and excitement leading into the game, but inevitably, the experience and guile of a well oiled Argentine outfit took its toll.

The impressive South Americans scored within the opening 30 seconds; It was a start the Aussies could not peg back.

In front of such a packed house that there were fans locked out, both sides played amongst a sizzling atmosphere. It was intense, robust, highly technical and strategic - but the savvier Argentine outfit cut Australia apart three more times to lead 4-0 at the break.

Simon Keith's side remained defiant in the second term, and scoring within two minutes of the re-start is just what they needed.

Jonno Barzel fizzed an early effort that hinted the green and gold would not surrender, Josh Shubitz came close lashing a couple of efforts while Robbie Ezekiel got through an outrageous amount of work.

Nothing summed up the guile of the Argentines better than just before half-time, when the mercurial Jarrod Basger seared towards goal in trademark fashion, yet when teeing up a teammate, an Argentine shirt slid from nowhere to deny him that passage.

There were too strong in all facets, particularly with Aussie skipper Jordan Mundell out with a quad injury. Despite throwing everything at Argentina - including playing with all five players and no goalkeeper in attack, the superior side prevailed.

Nevertheless, this young futsal side has secured an historic silver in one of the Maccabiah's fiercest sports. It has been a campaign to remember.

This is a group of players with a plan. This time, they exacted revenge on Brazil for 2013. There's no question which country they already have in their sights for 2021.
