Open netballers clinch back to back gold

Posted: 17-Jul-2017 by Maccabiah

Australia are the undisputed netball champions of Maccabiah after the open girls followed their junior counterparts in claiming gold over Great Britain on Sunday evening.

The final score was 39-28 but in reality it was a closer match than the scoreline dictates.

The Aussies were forced to work hard at both ends of the court for their gold medal clinching victory.

Gabi Mendelow and Hayley Mrocki were influential down forward for the green and gold, shooting the lights out in a dominant display.

Meanwhile captain Vanessa Mrocki made some massive turnovers and defencive contributions from goal defence.

Taryn Levin and Paige Roseman patrolled the court from the centre and were key in the fast paced transition netball which was integral in the Aussie gameplan.

An all around performance from the Australians, who just had too much quality for the Brits to handle.

It's back to back for the Aussies after victory in 2013, and an undefeated tournament to boot.

Congratulations on your gold medal girls!
