Junior netballers smash Great Britain to claim gold

Posted: 17-Jul-2017 by Maccabiah

Australia has vanquished any remaining ghosts of an infamous 2013 junior netball grand final loss to Great Britain, by smashing the Brits 51-27 to claim gold in Ra'anana.

The Aussies were undefeated heading into the final, following a number of big victories over their rivals in the group stage.

However, with the pressure of maintaining an undefeated run which already numbered six matches mounting on them, few expected Australia to come through as such convincing victors.

The girls in the green and gold were switched on from the outset, with captain Mia Futeran and centre Jordi Bolaffi setting the tone from the centre of the court - running the floor wonderfully and creating opportunities for their teammates.

Australia never surrendered the lead, as sharpshooting from Georgia Strasser and Shai Stern kept Suzie Mordech's side in the ascendancy throughout the crunch clash.

The British side showed heart as they fought till the very end, but the quality from the Aussies was just too much as the deficit ballooned in the second half.

Defenders Yasmin Halas, Natalie Lenwood and Goldie Karp kept it neat at the back, securing a number of key turnovers as they ensured the British attackers were kept quiet.

Wingers Tayla Cohen, Taye Miller and Gina Seligsohn were all busy as they transitioned the ball seamlessly from defence to attack time and time again.

Australia led throughout the entirety of the match as they clinched a gold medal four years in the making.

Congratulations to our undefeated junior girls netball side - champions of Maccabiah 2017!
